Aftercare

  • Leave the film on for 2-4 days. You may notice ink, plasma, or blood collecting under the film — this is completely normal.

    Remove the film immediately if:

    • You experience any reaction or irritation from the film

    • Water gets inside the film

    • Fluid leaks from the film

    • The film peels and exposes the tattoo

    How to remove the film:

    • Remove the film slowly under lukewarm running water. Peel it by stretching it parallel to your skin rather than pulling it straight up.

    • Gently wash the tattoo with mild soap. Pat dry with a clean paper towel or let it air dry.

    • Depending on your skin type and climate, follow one of the methods below for aftercare:

      • Normal or Oily Skin: Apply a thin layer of plain, fragrance-free lotion (e.g., CeraVe or Cetaphil) for 2–3 times daily after removal.

      • Extremely Dry Skin or Arid Climate: Apply a very thin layer of ointment (such as Aquaphor) 2–3 times daily after removal to prevent the skin from cracking. Once scabbing or peeling begins, switch to a non-fragrance lotion. Avoid heavy ointments at this stage, as they can soften scabs and cause premature peeling.

    • Always keep the tattoo clean and lightly moisturized.

  • Leave the plastic wrap on for 2-4 hours.

    • Remove the wrap and gently wash your tattoo with lukewarm water and mild soap. Use your hands to thoroughly rinse off all blood, plasma, and excess ink to prevent thick scabs. Pat dry with a clean paper towel or let it air dry. Repeat this cleaning process 2–3 times daily.

    • Keep the area completely bare after washing for the first 48 hours. Allowing the skin to dry and close naturally minimizes the risk of clogged pores and folliculitis.

    • From day 3 onwards, or once the skin starts to feel tight and begin to peel/scab, apply a thin layer of fragrance-free lotion (e.g., CeraVe or Cetaphil) after each cleaning. Avoid heavy ointments, as they can soften scabs and cause premature peeling.

THINGS TO AVOID WHILE TATTOO IS HEALING

  • Sun exposure

  • Swimming, baths, saunas, pools, and open water

  • Scented skincare or topical products

  • Strenuous exercise & gym workouts (avoid heavy stretching, friction, and gym bacteria)

  • Applying cosmetic products over the tattoo before it is fully healed

  • Shaving over the tattoo before it is fully healed

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND

  • Do not pick, scratch, or peel at the scabs or flaking skin. Let them fall off naturally to prevent ink loss.

  • Always ensure your hands and the tattoo area are clean and dry before applying lotion/ointment. Continue applying fragrance-free lotion daily to keep your tattoo vibrant.

  • Do not apply sunscreen until all scabs have completely flaked off; use clothing to shield it from the sun in the meantime. Once fully healed, always wear sunscreen, as UV rays break down the ink pigment and cause severe fading over time.

  • Healing time varies depending on tattoo style, size, placement, skin sensitivity, etc. The surface of the skin is usually healed and free of scabbing within 2-3 weeks, though the tattoo may still appear shiny at this stage.

  • The deeper layers of the skin typically take around 2-3 months to fully heal. If your tattoo requires a touch-up, please wait until the skin is completely healed before contacting me at hello@megink.com.
